The IOC olive germplasm banks network currently brings together numerous research projects on the sustainable development of olive growing in the Mediterranean. Faced with the urgent need to adapt Mediterranean olive growing to climate change, the IOC is seeking to create a space for exchanges between collections to ensure consistency in terms of the circulation of olive tree genetic resources for research (plants, cuttings and DNA sequences and associated data) and to intensify information exchange and data collection, as is being discussed with the ITPGRFA and these same banks. This approach responds to the IOC’s research coordination mission in terms of governance, by pooling the preservation of olive tree genetic resources.
